SMART Goal Setting

In this the 21st Century most people fundamentally know that the basis for success is intricically linked to Goal Setting. LMI’s definition of SUCCESS takes it a step further by stating that success is “The progressive realisation of worthwhile predetermined personal goals”. Yet again, the key link relates to ‘Goals’. Now if this is acknowledged as being the holy grail of success why isn’t everyone crystallizing their goals, planning to achieve their goals and perpetually working toward their own definition of success?

My belief as to the reason why success is not being achieved by the majority is that their goals are just not “LMI–SMART”. By this l mean the ‘T’ for most in the UK relates to Time when it should be, T = TANGIBLE. A simple error but one which can and does seriously hinder the realisation of goals. Let me explain why.

The S = Specific, but to be specific the goal must be Tangible. The Goal Setter must be able to touch and visualise the goal in very Tangible terms. When the goal is Tangible it will allow you to Measure your progress toward achieving it. Only then should one decide whether it is actually Achievable and or Realistic.

Time and Deadlines never lose their importance however for many they believe if they have not been met then they must be failures, and this is nonsense.

Have we honestly failed if we don’t achieve the goal within the time set? Likewise have we failed if we achieve the goal before the Deadline? Absolutely not, we just needed to adjust the date, not the goal.

Success is within your grasp if you progressively realise your worthwhile predetermined personal SMART goals, Guaranteed!
